Disney postpones cinema release: “The King’s Man” is no longer coming in 2020

Disney has already postponed a theatrical release date – in contrast to “Mulan”, the agent prequel “The King’s Man” will at least still come to the cinema, but not until February 2021.

The planning for our cinema podcast screen love has been about as certain as the weather forecast for a drunk frog since March – and now it has probably caught the next movie:

“The King’s Man: The Beginning”, a prequel to the fun agent action films “Kingsman: The Secret Service” and “Kingsman 2: The Golden Circle”, will not open in September 2020 as planned.

“The King’s Man: The Beginning”, a prequel to the fun agent action films “Kingsman: The Secret Service” and “Kingsman 2: The Golden Circle”, will not open in September 2020 as planned.

[UPDATE August 28, 2020]: According to Variety, the new US date is February 26, 2021. In Germany, “The King’s Man” will start on February 25, 2021, as has since been officially announced.

There are other theatrical releases

In March and the Corona months that followed, all major theatrical releases were simply postponed and the cinemas were closed, but the situation these days is different:

In the meantime, at least some cinemas have reopened in the USA, even if the important regions of New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco are still missing. In other markets, including Germany, the movie theaters are open across the board, so that there are new, mostly smaller films in the cinemas every week – and Warner is even starting a potential blockbuster with “Tenet” on October 1, “Wonder Woman 1984 ”is to follow.

Disney is still waiting

Disney, on the other hand, is avoiding the cinemas these days: “X-Men: New Mutants”, which, like “The King’s Man: The Beginning”, is part of the catalog of the purchased Fox studio, will hit the cinema on September 10th, but it may be plain sunk, as evil tongues say about the film, which was received lukewarm in the first reviews and was postponed very often even before Corona, which has a problematic production history. At least it should help “X-Men: New Mutants” that the superhero competition is simply missing.

The Marvel film “Black Widow” is not due to open until October 29th after its postponement, the “Kingsman” prequel is now postponed to 2021 and the new “Mulan” went straight to Disney as a premium VOD. September (it only comes to theaters in non-Disney countries) 123MOVIES.

In the podcast: “Tenet”

Our screen love episode for a film that you can watch right now in the cinema comes here very fresh: Christopher Nolan’s sci-fi thriller “Tenet”. Don’t worry, the episode is initially completely spoiler-free and then only has mild spoilers (so no essential phrases are revealed):
